In 1936, Dora Maar and Pablo Picasso met at the Café Deux Magots in Paris. At that time, Dora was already a recognized photographer, at the zenith of her career; she was one of the most colorful personalities of Surrealism. It was the beginning of a great love with much passion and intellectual depth. Picasso portrayed Dora countless times in paintings and drawings. She even assisted Pablo in the monumental work Guernica. Some brushstrokes are from her hand.
In this unusually interesting drawing the painter depicts a Janus head. A motif that is sometimes found in the graphic oeuvre well comparable. The two profile portraits could show Dora and Pablo. The satyr horns are an expression of the complex connection between the two protagonists.
it „Adora“, dedicated to Dora

Comparable, personal drawings can be found again and again in the complete works of Pablo Picasso. Stylistically, according to our expert assessment, it is a drawing by Pablo Picasso. We have examined the surface in detail. The drawing is as old as the paper itself. The applied chalk or charcoal shows signs of aging that cannot be artificially produced. This is also evidence of the age of the drawing. The overall impression is convincing and leads us to believe that it is an original by Pablo Picasso.
